SUSTAINABILITY AGENDA.

Commitment by a company to the sustainability agenda starts with embracing social, environmental, economic, and ethical factors as part of its strategic decision-making. It extends to evaluating how these factors affect the business processes and stakeholders and what risks and opportunities these factors entail. The sustainability agenda encourages businesses to adopt measures to mitigate risks and take advantage of opportunities.

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) concern all investment asset classes. Therefore, the integration of ESG is steadily growing. And as it evokes more opportunities, more and more businesses consider ESG integration across their portfolios as a new normal. Furthermore, integrating ESG factors into investment processes is increasingly becoming mainstream.

While ESG presents 3 pillars of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is setting a guideline for companies on how they can achieve social responsibility within their products and services, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the core of the 2030 Sustainability Agenda come in as an integrated approach designed to end poverty, fight inequality, and stop climate change.

The 17 SDGs have been established by the United Nations to re-frame our view on development and help guide companies and organisations on their journey towards achieving sustainable development practices. The purpose of the SDGs is to make a difference where we can.

In 2BM, we have made a commitment to embrace our extensive expertise and focus on what we excel at – helping companies to use our innovation for building and strengthening their capacity in proactive business management driving the transformation to improve ESG and put sustainable development practices in place.

To that end, we invest our effort into 4 SDGs that we have chosen as our sustainability pillars, where we can have the strongest impacts.

2BM SUSTAINABILITY CONTRIBUTION.

“We innovate consumer grade software and apps for industry 4.0 – Empowering maintenance technicians and warehouse employees to use SAP.”

How we contribute to SDG 9

In 2BM, we strongly relate to SDG 9 which is driving industry, innovation, and infrastructure, as many of our clients are leaders in their domain and our ongoing cooperation and established trust gives us a unique opportunity to get an intimate insight into their infrastructure and processes, to further use our expertise to drive innovation for the sake of our clients’ improved performance and, first and foremost, a more sustainable and safer world.

As we take priority not only in business efficiency but also in human relations, we are able to build lasting partnerships with companies and therefore use our innovation as a building block for ongoing improvement of quality, reliable, and sustainable solutions for resilient infrastructure, supporting economic development, and shaping safe environment for human well-being.

In 2BM, we are dedicated to encouraging innovation for sustainable infrastructure.

Target areas

Target 9.1. Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all

Target 9.4. By 2030, upgrade infrastructure and retrofit industries to make them sustainable, with increased resource-use efficiency and greater adoption of clean and environmentally sound technologies and industrial processes, with all countries taking action in accordance with their respective capabilities

Target 9.5. Enhance scientific research, upgrade the technological capabilities of industrial sectors in all countries, in particular developing countries, including, by 2030, encouraging innovation and substantially increasing the number of research and development workers per 1 million people and public and private research and development spending

“We offer companies the Mobile Predictive Maintenance solution so they can enjoy improved infrastructure performance and ultimately foresee and avoid equipment accidents and hazardous substances leakage.”

How we contribute to SDG 12

Furthermore, in 2BM, we are also directly contributing to SDG 12 which is dealing with responsible consumption and production through the Mobile Predictive Maintenance solution part of our Mobile Work Order Suite.

By means of focused and efficient data collection and management, we are able to make tailored predictions for state-of-the-art preventive maintenance, whereas consumption can be reduced in a responsible and sustainable way. We are encouraging our clients and assisting them to reduce resource consumption in production. With our predictive solutions, they can maximise their infrastructure lifecycle and improve its performance – no need to replace yet fully operational components, no need for extra human resources to carry out redundant planned maintenance, spot-on unplanned maintenance, reduced space and costs for the storage of replacement parts. Therefore, companies can enjoy the benefits of the extended lifecycle of their equipment and reduced related costs for maintenance and storage, as well as increased RUL and OEE. With timely and efficient maintenance preventing equipment accidents, the leakage of materials, including hazardous ones, can be foreseen and therefore avoided. Furthermore, global supply chain challenges can be mitigated. And ultimately, the risk of man-made disasters will be reduced, such as greenhouse gas emissions, chemical spills, nuclear and radiation accidents, grid failure, and more. This is linking us directly to the Climate Action, which we are implicitly and explicitly contributing to with our impacts achieved within SDG 12.

Target areas

Target 12.1. Implement the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, all countries taking action, with developed countries taking the lead, taking into account the development and capabilities of developing countries

Target 12.2. By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources

Target 12.5. By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling, and reuse

Target 12.C. Rationalise inefficient fossil-fuel subsidies that encourage wasteful consumption by removing market distortions, in accordance with national circumstances, including by restructuring taxation and phasing out those harmful subsidies, where they exist, to reflect their environmental impacts, taking fully into account the specific needs and conditions of developing countries and minimising the possible adverse impacts on their development in a manner that protects the poor and the affected communities

”The Change is needed to ensure the transformation the world needs today to secure its tomorrow.

How we contribute to SDG 13

Climate Action is at the top of the Sustainability Agenda as it is geared toward saving the world we live in. The Change is needed to ensure the transformation the world needs today to secure its tomorrow. We need multi-stakeholder involvement and joint effort at all levels to secure that climate change measures at the supranational, international, national, and organisational levels are in place, cutting across policies, strategies, and planning.

In 2BM, we are profoundly dedicated to this Goal, investing into awareness-raising, building and strengthening institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, impact reduction, and early warning by offering companies the MOBILE PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE solution designed as a customer-tailored prediction tool for the state-of-the-art preventive maintenance to foresee and therefore avoid unnecessary equipment maintenance and leakage of hazardous substances. Thus, we are directly investing into a more sustainable and safer world. We are helping companies to comply with and contribute to national policy implementation, to strategise and plan their business processes to minimise their ecological footprint. We are stepping up to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and therefore mitigate global warming which is a massive driving factor for climate change.

In 2BM Refrigerant Management Project, we have chosen to bring forward Our Impact Solution – the MOBILE PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE – primarily for the energy sector scoring as the largest consumer of SF6 gas which has an extremely high Global Warming Potential. We will further proceed with extending our impact to other domains to scale up the climate change mitigation effect.

Target areas

Target 13.2. Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning

Indicator 13.2.2. Total greenhouse gas emissions per year

Target 13.3. Improve education, awareness-raising and human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning

”We are building strategic partner relations as part of our Lighthouse Strategy for transformative business solutions based on SAP technology.”

How we contribute to SDG 17

In 2BM, we are committed to people and human well-being. Social and ethical factors are an integral part of our strategic decision-making. Our corporate culture builds on integrity, trust, and care. We reinforce experimentation, initiative, innovation, and flexibility. We strongly believe in the power of knowledge and information and the need for knowledge sharing. Our resources are committed to fostering learning at all levels. Our team is driven by the desire to understand how things work, how to adapt to the environment while achieving organisational objectives. Our employees are empowered to resolve problems and find better ways of doing business. For the sake of improving individual and organisational performance.

The same applies to our client relations. We believe in the power of partnerships, and knowledge sharing. We help companies to improve their performance by evolving the way they are doing business.

Cooperation and coordination are key for equal and equitable access to science, technology, and innovation for the sake of the shared goal of making the world a better place. Sustainable development calls for coherent policies which can be put in place only by means of multi-stakeholder involvement via global partnerships at national, international, and supranational levels, with input from public, public-private, and civil society efforts.

Target areas

Target 17.6. Enhance North-South, South-South and triangular regional and international cooperation on and access to science, technology and innovation and enhance knowledge sharing on mutually agreed terms, including through improved coordination among existing mechanisms, in particular at the United Nations level, and through a global technology facilitation mechanism

Target 17.14. Enhance policy coherence for sustainable development

Target 17.16. Enhance the global partnership for sustainable development, complemented by multi-stakeholder partnerships that mobilize and share knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources, to support the achievement of the sustainable development goals in all countries, in particular developing countries

Target 17.17. Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships

REFRIGERANT MANAGEMENT & SF6.

Fluorinated gases (F-gasses) are man-made gases extensively used for industrial applications. F-gases are often used as substitutes for ozone-depleting substances as they are not detrimental to the ozone layer. However, Fgases are powerful greenhouse gases (GHG). Having an even higher warming potential than carbon dioxide (CO2), they are a potent driver of the global climate change.

To control emissions from F-gases, the European Union has adopted two legislative acts: the so-called F-gas Regulation and the Mobile Air Conditioning Systems Directive. The European Environment Agency (EEA) contributes by collecting data reported by companies on the production, import, export, destruction, and feedstock use of F-gasses in the EU.

According to the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published in 2014, electricity production alone is responsible for the largest share of 25% of GHG sources, including 11% of electricity used in industry.

Fluorinated greenhouse gases are HFCs, PFCs, and SF6. HFCs have been used as refrigerants and for expanding plastic foam. PFCs are refrigerants.

SF6 is a colourless, odourless, non-flammable and non-toxic gas. Its excellent dielectric properties make it perfectly suited for arc quenching, while its other characteristics make it safe as both insulator and cooler. SF6 was initially used for sound insulation in windows and is currently primarily used as an insulator in high-voltage equipment above 1 KV, semi-conductor manufacturing, wind turbines, vaccine coolers, and mobile systems.

SF6 is the most potent F-gas, in fact the most potent greenhouse gas of all, and has a global warming potential (GWP) that is 23,500 times higher than CO2. Moreover, this is where Total Equivalent Warming Impact comes in indicating the amount of greenhouse gases generated in kilograms of CO2. Total Equivalent Warming Impact encompasses direct refrigerant emissions and CO2 emissions due to the energy consumption of the device.

Furthermore, the reported amount of SF6 used to date does not align with the measured amount in the atmosphere, demonstrating underreporting and the lack of information management.

This constitutes a challenge for reaching the drawdown state, which is the point where the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere starts to decrease. To accommodate this problem, organisations need to optimise their management of F-gasses to gain informative insights that enable better management and control.

1 kg of the extremely potent SF6 gas is equivalent to 23,500 kg of CO2. It stays in the atmosphere for thousands of years

The annual global SF6 emissions are equivalent to CO2 emissions produced by approx. 100 million cars

i

Severely underreported by countries – 10 times more in the atmosphere than reported

The most efficient way to reduce emissions is by improving management practices and thereby reducing leakage.

Access to data mapping out the emission sources throughout the handling process is key.

MOTIVATION.

Our Team came to an understanding that there is a prominent contextual issue related to the lack of proper management of SF6 relative to how potent it is. Global warming is increasing at an unprecedented rate, contributing significantly to climate change, and radical climate action measures to mitigate this change are needed to preserve the planet as we know it.

Our Team is offering an Impact Solution for an arguably isolated area within refrigerant management, which however contributes greatly to the Climate Change we are aiming to tackle. It is a starting point that enables the operational application of our knowledge and expertise to provide even more extensive solutions. Additionally, 2BM aims to provide similar services for the full range of F-gasses, including HFCs, which makes up to 80% of the total F-gas usage.
